" Aint I A Woman" - Sojurner Truth

After Reading Sojurner Truth " Aint I A Woman" a speech held at the women's convention in Akron,Ohio, I was not surprised to read that many African American woman were not treated as woman. However, this speech did not only deal with the mistreatment of African American Woman but woman in general. At this  time woman rights were  non existing , not only was there racism going on between all African Americans in general a well but if you were a Female and African American you had the worst of it all. In Truths audience she tries to tie everyone together with her speech by making it extremely personal and stating " Aint I a Woman".

African American woman in particular were looked upon as inhuman or something " Dirty" to look at the White men did not see them as fragile or even help them to their "carriages". Truth points out that man in the North believe that African American woman do not deserve pity so this is why she keeps mocking them the same way they mock her. She feels that  " Anit [she] A woman" just like any other White woman around didn't she bear "thirteen children" just like any other woman , her feminist characteristics may not be the same as a white female but she is a women with the same organs and body parts as a regular white female. So why is she not held when she cries, or asked if she's ok ? Why cant she have the same comfort White women feel with man, though its not the attention she actually wants this privileged is to be given to all woman.

To connect a religious stand point she makes a great argument with "that little man in black" who states that women cant  have such rights "cause Jesus wasn't a woman", but she fights back stating that Jesus was not bared by a man, he Came from a woman which we know as Virgin Mary- so that right there tells you they must acknowledge women because without them who would bare children, who would raise them and nurture them. So we must think just like she said if God believed women were powerless than why allow Virgin Mary to "turn the world upside down all alone", if she can fight and bring a man as powerful as Jesus all woman can fight and turn the world right side up and no man is allowed to stop them.

Today do we feel this is the case ? If we all unite as women and voice our opinions can we overcome the struggle and can we fight for our rights ?
