If you would like to join Amazon Student

This post is about joining Amazon Student. To clarify, I am NOT advocating that you do this, but I’m making this post just in case anyone would be interested in joining. If you do want to join Amazon Student, please use this link (full disclosure, this link is my personal link, but we could use whatever Amazon sends me for something for the class- like snacks or something else…).

Amazon Student is a free membership program created especially for college students. Basically, Amazon Student is the less expensive version of Amazon Prime. If you’re signing up for Amazon Student for the first time, you’ll receive a kind of trial in which you get six months of limited Amazon Student benefits. For example, you’ll receive FREE Two-Day Shipping on eligible purchases for the first six months, but during this trial period, you will not be eligible for other Amazon Student benefits such as streaming Amazon instant video or borrowing books from the Kindle Owner’s Lending library.

After the first 6 months, if you want to continue to receive free 2-day shipping, you’ll have to transition to a paid Amazon Student Prime account that costs $39/yr. Transitioning to a paid account includes these benefits:
  • free 2-day shipping
  • stream instant videos from Amazon
  • borrow 1 book a month from Kindle Owner’s Lending Library
Please note that you do NOT have to transition to a paid plan if you don’t want the benefits that full Amazon Student memberships offer. The best way to make sure that you are NOT automatically upgraded is to manage your Amazon Student membership:
  • Log in to your Amazon account
  • Under Settings, choose Manage Student Membership
  • Select the “Do Not Renew” option
If you would like to access the instant videos and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library before the end of the free period, you may upgrade at any time to the $39 membership by visiting www.amazon.com/join-student or www.amazon.com/prime.
You may also cancel your Amazon Student membership at any time:
  • Log in to your Amazon account
  • Under Settings, choose Manage Student Membership
  • Select the “Cancel Student Membership” option
Finally, also notice that one of the ways Student Prime differs from the usual Amazon Prime membership is that a Student Prime membership does not allow you share your account benefits with anyone else. Before making the decision to join, please read more about the program here.
