blog post 1 Gender

The last class we had been discussing gender and whether or not it is biological or it is something that you adapt to based off your surroundings and your upbringing. In this video that I posted it is about a young boy who even at a young age new he was meant to be a girl. His parents raised him as a boy and yet when he was in kindergarten and after he wanted to wear girl clothes and play with dolls. This is wear it makes me think that it is somewhat biological because a child that young is still learning what gender is and the identities and what are the differences between their peers.

In class we have also  been discussing gender and how male and females each seem to have different roles in society. I currently work in veterinarian clinic and I noticed something very interesting when it came time to call the owners the following day after their appointments  Even though both owners would come in for the appointment and would know what was going on , when it came time to talk to the owner if the male of the house hold answered he would automatically just say talk to my spouse or wife, even though he knew the answers and how the pet was doing. I thought this was very interesting because just as women are usually the sole care giver for the children it also seems that way for the pets as well.
