In Honor of Women

I was watching the news the other day and they were doing a week long Women's History segment. That day, Alix Kates Shulman was featured. Her interview caught my attention, of course, since I've been made more acutely aware of everything involving women since beginning this class. Shulman is a writer who has created works about the unequal distribution of housework in the home lives of women, equal pay and reproductive rights.

I really perked up when she said the following:

"Once you understand that women are second class citizens, then, as soon as you open your eyes in the morning, you see so many things that need to be done."

Check out her website, which is linked in this post.

Another cool thing I discovered watching the news was the site Women You Should Know. It contains videos, stories and features of dynamic women, mostly from right in NYC. One may also recommend to them a woman we should know! Pretty neat!

Finally, an article from DNA Info reached my inbox and it explained how the state is looking for women to re-build Kosciuszko bridge. They're working in conjunction with Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) to make this happen. There are even info sessions being held regarding this. Take that, Lego!

  1. I've gotten to work with Alix Schulman this year, several times. She had mentioned she was a writer, but I had no IDEA exactly what she wrote about! How awesome! and the world continues to get smaller. Thanks for sharing!
