For my excursion i choose to interview two males and two females and compare their jobs and housework to each other. The first two people I interviewed was a couple that revealed a huge work difference between the two. Person A, the female (20 years old), is currently in college studying business management. While being in school, she currently works at a cafe, which she manages when the bosses are not there. She works 8-12 hr shifts four days a week and she is expected to deal with large amounts of money, take care of orders coming in and out of the cafe and is expected to show exquisite customer service. Having such a big responsibility at work she gets under paid, only receiving 9$ an hour for her work. On top of working she is expected to help her parents out and do chores around the house, ranging from cleaning her room to doing the laundry to taking care of their dog.
Person B on the other hand, the male (24 years old), did not go to college to receive a degree and being a male, as he stated, he has more leisure and gets away with not doing housework. He helps out his parents by paying the rent, but household responsibilities go to his older sister. He works at a Ferrari dealership, fixing cars, re-modeling cars and selling them back. At times when there is nothing to do he sleeps in the back or watches movies. At his job only men work because according to person B, cars are a mans job and women would not know the first thing about cars. For his "work" at the Ferrari dealership he gets paid 25$ an hr and expecting to get a 5-7$ raise after his first year working there is up.
Person C, a male (41 years old), has a similar story to person B. He did not go to college, only finishing high school. At home, person C does absolutely nothing because according to him, his wife should take care of everything. His wife and him both provide for the family, but the housework is not divided equally between them. His wife cooks, cleans, does the laundry, and gets the kids ready for school. All the household responsibilities falls on the wife even though they both work long hours at work. Person C works as a construction manager, making sure everyone is working under a safe environment and makes sure everything is going smoothly on the construction site. He works 10 hrs a day ranging from 5-7 days a week. He receives a pay of $35 with a raise of about 5$ every year.
Lastly, person D, a female (19 years old), is currently finishing up her associates degree in childhood education. She plans to get her bachelors and masters to be a full-time teacher at a high school. Like person A, she has man responsibilities at home and is expected to help her mom around the house whenever she is home. She cleans, sometimes cooks, does laundry, etc. On top of school and housework she works a 5-16 hr shift, 5 days a week at a delicacy. She has to also deal with large sums of cash and deliveries going into the store. Great customer service is required and like person A, she also has to manage the store when her boss is not there. For all her hard work she makes 9.55$ and hr with a 50cent raise every year.
Clearly you can see a big difference between person B/C and Person A/D. The males, make significantly more money, not having a college degree, then the females, having less of a workload then the females. Also they do not have to do housework because as they both stated, thats the women's job and after coming home from a long day of work they do not expect to do anything around the house. The females on the other hand are currently in school, making significantly less money then the men and have more of a responsibility at work. They do not receive much and only receive a small amount of raise at a time. I also know many examples of where certain women make less money then men doing the exact same job. Fair? I don't think so. These females that i interviewed work full time all year round. Meaning they go to school, help around the house and still go to work. While the men think it is fine and enough if they just work. That is not okay in my opinion and will not change anytime soon, which is unfair.
