Modern times not so modern in household

I chose the excursion where I spoke to 4 people, two males and two females. I chose to speak with my brother and his girlfriend and a coworker as well as a friend . We will use the name John for my brother and his girlfriend we will use the name Mary. John is 27 and Mary his girlfriend is 40. John has been in the photo world for a couple years and started as an intern and then started working as an equipment manager to now the big guy who is in charge of all the equipment and has assistants working for him. He is making a salary of $80,000 with full benefits and has not received a college degree but has some college experience. When it comes to housework he does not partake other than the gardening or anything that deals with the office. He has a maid come every other week and when his girlfriends asks him to do the laundry it usually entails him just dropping it off and the laundry mat doing it. He works 40 hours a week and is on salary and is able to take many vacations, since he is able to work comp days which is working a weekend day or holiday and in return being able to take a day off. Each day on the job it is catered with breakfast and lunch and they have many parties and functions. He is able to use the equipment at any time that he would like as well as take it home or on trips to build his portfolio.

Mary has a college degree from FIT in photographer and is a freelancer digital tech. She has to schedule her own days and is paid by day verses salary, which means her checks are usually sporadic. Yearly she generally makes around $70,000-$75,000$if she works 5 days a week. She is able to make her own schedule and take any time off and never works weekends. As for chores Mary is the one who mainly cleans, does the grocery shopping unless it’s big trips and does the laundry. The maid hired only comes every other week so cleaning is necessary in between. If any cooking needs to be done she will cook dinner and he will only help if asked to do so. Neither Mary or John have neither animals nor children so at this time they only have to look after themselves.

The next person I interviewed was a friend who works at a vet tech in Brooklyn and her name is Ashley. She is currently attending veterinary tech school and only has a high school education. She makes $12 an hour and has been with the company 2 years. In her household she cooks, cleans and takes care of all the pets. Her boyfriend has more freedom and comes and goes as he pleases. Unless directed does he help out around the house or take care of the animals.

Next I talked to a coworker named Dan and he has two college degrees but neither pertains to vet medicine. He has been working less time at the vet than Ashley and he currently makes $15 an hour. Our boss is a male and seems to favor the males and it is shown during the job as well as pay. Jonah is single so he must fulfill all household chores, but they are slacking since he lives alone and does not have to worry about another person other than his dog and cat.

In conclusion it seemed to me that the males only chose to do housework and go to the store if they absolutely had to. Otherwise the woman in the house preformed those duties. I know that growing up that is how it was and still is with my parents. Even though both my parents work my mother cooks every night and does a majority of the chores. Although my dad will do some laundry and if my mom cooks he does the dishes. My dad does the outside chores such as keeping up with the cars and the lawn. He will go grocery shopping if my mom makes a list and is asked. Its interesting to see that how you were raised still effects you later on and you still keep up with those tendencies.
